In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful.
(1) O you who believe! When you make promises and agreements, make sure you keep your word. You're allowed to eat certain animals, except for the ones that are not allowed, which have been mentioned before. Also, you can't go hunting when you are in the state of ihram during a pilgrimage. Just remember, God decides what He wants.
(2) O you who believe! Don't break God's rituals, especially during the Holy Months, the animals to be sacrificed, the decorated offerings, nor those heading to the Sacred House seeking their Lord's blessings and approval. After you're done with your pilgrimage, it's okay to go hunting. But don't let your anger at people who blocked your way to the Sacred House make you break the rules. Work together for good and right things, and don't join forces for bad or wrong actions. And always respect God. God is strict when it comes to punishment.
(3) Here are some things you shouldn't eat: dead animals, blood, pork, animals sacrificed to things other than God, animals strangled or beaten, animals that have fallen to their death, animals killed by other animals, and animals that another animal has partially eaten – unless you can slaughter them properly before they die. Don't sacrifice animals on altars or use the practice of casting lots. That is a sin. Those who don't believe in your religion have given up hope, but don't fear them but fear Me. Today, I've completed your religion, shown you My favor, and accepted Submission as your way of life. If someone is extremely hungry and has to eat, even if they didn't mean to do something wrong, then remember, God is All-Forgiving and Most Merciful.
(4) People ask you, O Prophet, what food is okay for them. Tell them, "Eat what's good and allowed. You can also eat the animals and birds your hunting pets catch for you, but make sure to say God's Name before you eat it. And always remember to be mindful of God. God keeps track of things quickly."
(5) Today, all the good and pure foods you can eat. Also, the food of the People of the Book is okay for you, and your food is OK for them. You can marry good and pure believing girls, as well as good and pure girls from those who followed the Scripture before you. Just make sure to give them their marriage gifts, and don't have relationships with them outside of marriage. If someone doesn't believe in the faith, all the good things they do won't count in this life, and in the afterlife, they will be among the losers.
(6) O you who believe! When you get ready to pray, wash your face and hands up to your elbows, wipe your head, and wash your feet up to your ankles. If you're in a state of complete impurity, take a full bath. But if you're sick, traveling, have used the restroom, or were intimate with your spouse and can't find water, you can clean yourself with clean dirt by wiping your face and hands. God doesn't want to make things complicated for you; instead, He wants to purify you and complete His kindness to you, so maybe you'll be thankful.
(7) Think about the good things God has done for you and the promise you made to Him when you said, "We hear and obey." Always be mindful of God. God knows exactly what's in your heart, even the things you keep hidden.
(8) O you who believe! Stay strong for God and always tell the truth. Don't let your dislike for someone make you unfair. Be fair! That's closer to the right thing. And always be mindful of God. God is watching and knows everything you do.
(9) God has promised that those who believe and do good will be forgiven and rewarded greatly.
(10) But those who don't believe and ignore Our revelations will be the residence of the Hellfire.
(11) O you who believe! Think about the good things God has done for you. Some people wanted to hurt you, but God protected you from them. Always be mindful of God and upon Him, put your trust.
(12) God made a covenant with the Children of Israel and chose twelve leaders from among them. God said, "I'm here to support you. If you pray, pay the alms to help those in need, have faith in My messengers, support them, and lend God a good loan, I'll certainly forgive your mistakes and welcome you into Gardens with rivers flowing underneath. But if someone among you stops believing, they'll lose their way."
(13) But because they broke their promise, We cursed them and made their hearts hard. They twisted the meaning of the Word and ignored some of what they were supposed to learn. You'll often see them being dishonest, except for a few. But forgive them and move on. Indeed, God loves those who help others.
(14) And from those who say, “We are Christians,” God took their covenant, but they didn't follow some of what they were supposed to do. So, because of that, We caused problems and disagreements among them, which will continue until the Day of Judgment. Eventually, God will let them know everything they did.
(15) O People of the Book! Our Messenger has come to you, showing you many things you were hiding from the Book and overlooking some. Here comes to you from God: a light and a clear Book.
(16) By this, God guides those who do what makes Him happy toward the Way to Peace. He leads them from darkness to light with His permission. He shows them the Right Way.
(17) Certainly, those who claim "God is the Messiah, son of Mary," are not believing in the Right Way. Ask them, "Who can stop God if He decides to destroy the Messiah, son of Mary, his mother, and everyone in the world at once?" Only God controls the heavens, the earth, and everything in between. He creates whatever He wants, and God can do anything.
(18) The Jews and the Christians claim, "We are like God's children, and He loves us." Say, “If that's true, why does God punish you when you do wrong things? In reality, you're just humans, like everyone else He created. He forgives some and punishes others. Everything in the heavens, the earth, and between belongs to God, and everyone will eventually return to Him.”
(19) O People of the Book! Our Messenger has indeed come to you to make things clear after a long time without any messengers. You can't say, "No one told us the good news or warned us." You have received someone who brings good news and warns you. God can do anything.
(20) And remember when Moses said to his people, "O my people! Think about the good things God did for you. He chose prophets from among you, made you leaders, and gave you things no one else in the world had ever gotten.
(21) O my people! Go into the Holy Land that God has promised for you. Don't turn back, or you'll end up losers."
(22) They said, "Moses, there are some tough people in there. We won't go in until they leave. Once they're gone, we're in."
(23) Two men who didn't want to disobey God and had His blessings said, "Enter through the gate, and when you do, you'll win. Trust in God if you're a believer."
(24) They said, "Moses, we're not going in if those troublemakers are there. You and your God can fight; we're staying here."
(25) Moses prayed, "God, I can only control myself and my brother, so please keep us away from those rebellious folks."
(26) God said, "It is forbidden for them for forty years, and they will be lost in the land. Don't be sad about the people who are being stubbornly disobedient."
(27) And tell them, O Prophet, the story of Adam's two sons: Once, they both offered something to God, but only one's offering was accepted. The other got angry and said, "I'm going to kill you!" The one whose offering was accepted replied, "God only accepts from the good-hearted people."
(28) He continued, "If you raise your hand to kill me, I won’t raise my hand to kill you. I'm afraid of God, the Lord of everything.
(29) I want you to carry the responsibility of your sin and mine, then you will end up in the Fire. And that is the reward of the wrongdoers.”
(30) Eventually, he couldn't control his anger and ended up killing his brother. Then, he became one of the losers.
(31) God sent a crow scratching the ground to teach him how to hide his brother's body. He cried, "Woe to me! Am I so weak that I am unable to be like this crow and bury my brother's body?" He felt sorry after that.
(32) Because of this, We have a rule for the people of Israel: If you kill someone except to protect yourself or stop something terrible from happening, it's as if you've harmed all of humanity. But if you save a life, it's like you've saved all humankind. Our messengers explained this to them, but sadly, many still do evil things."
(33) Indeed, the punishment for those who go against God and His Messenger, trying to cause corruption on earth, is the death penalty, being crucified, having their hands and feet cut off on opposite sides, or being kicked out of the land. So, in this life, they'll be looked down upon. And in the Afterlife, they'll face severe punishment.
(34) Except for those who realize their mistakes and ask for forgiveness before you catch them. God is All-Forgiving and Most Merciful.
(35) O you who believe! Be mindful of God, try to get closer to Him, and work hard for His cause so you can be successful.
(36) If those who don't believe had all the stuff on Earth, even double that, and they tried to give it up to avoid suffering on Resurrection Day, it wouldn't work. No matter how much they offer, it won't save them. They're in for an excruciating punishment.
(37) They'll want to escape from the Fire, but they won't be able to. They'll face a punishment that goes on forever.
(38) When it comes to those who steal, whether they're males or females, cut off their hands as a punishment for their actions. This is meant to stop others from doing the same. God is All-Powerful and All-Wise.
(39) But if someone realizes their mistake and makes amends for their wrongdoings, God is willing to forgive. Indeed, God is All-Forgiving and Most Merciful.
(40) Don't forget that God is the Ruler of everything in the heavens and on Earth. He punishes whoever He wants and forgives whoever He wants. God is Capable of anything.
(41) O Messenger! Don't let those who quickly turn away from their faith bring you down. Some people say they believe but don't mean it deep down. The same goes for some who call themselves Jews. They listen to lies and to people who never even met you. They twist the words out of place, saying, “If you're given this, take it, but if not, be careful.” If God decides to test someone, you cannot protect them from God. God has no intention of making them better. They'll face shame in this world. And they'll be severely punished in the Hereafter.
(42) They like to listen to lies and earn money in dishonest ways. If they come to you, either judge between them or ignore them. If you ignore them, they can't hurt you at all. But if you judge, make sure it's fair. God likes fair people.
(43) But why do they ask you to judge between them when they already have the rules from God in the Torah? Then, they ignore those rules. They're not true believers.
(44) Certainly! We revealed the Torah containing guidance and light. The prophets, who submitted themselves to God, judged the Jews based on it. The same way the rabbis and scholars judged according to God’s Book, which they were entrusted with and made keepers of. Don't be afraid of people; fear Me instead! Don't sell out My Revelations for a small price. Those who don't follow what God said are indeed disbelievers.
(45) And We set a rule for them in the Torah: a life for a life, an eye for an eye, a nose for a nose, an ear for an ear, a tooth for a tooth, all injuries the same for the same. But if you choose to forgive and be kind instead, it can make up for the wrong that was done to you. Those who don't follow these rules given by God are genuinely the wrongdoers.
(46) After them, We sent Jesus, son of Mary. He confirmed the teachings of the Torah that came before him. God gave him the Gospel with guidance and light, confirming what was in the Torah. It's like a guide and lesson for those who fear God.
(47) So, let the followers of the Gospel judge by what God has revealed in it. Those who don't judge by God's revelations are genuinely rebellious.
(48) We've given you the Book filled with truth, which supports the previous Books and is superior to them. When people have disputes, settle them by following what God has revealed in this Book, not by following their desires over the truth that has come to you, O Prophet. We have given each of you a law and a way of life. God could have made everyone follow the same law, but instead, He wants to see how you behave with the law He has given you. So, try your best to do good things. Remember, you all return to God in the end, and He'll tell you where you went wrong.
(49) When settling disputes, O Prophet, judge by what God has revealed, not what people want. Be careful so they don't tempt you away from some of what God has revealed to you. If they ignore what God says, then know that God plans to punish them for some of their wrongdoings. Indeed, many people are very rebellious!
(50) So, do they want to follow the law of ignorance? And who can judge better than God for people who are sure of themselves?
(51) O you who believe! Don't team up with Jews and Christians. Some Jews and Christians are tight with each other, so if you join forces with them, it's like you are part of them. God doesn't guide those who are wrongdoers.
(52) You might notice some folks with troubled feelings heading their way, saying, "We're worried something bad might happen to us." But God could bring victory or something unexpected, and they'll feel sorry for keeping secrets in their hearts.
(53) The true believers will wonder, "Are these the people who swore to be on our side? Their actions mean nothing now, and they've lost."
(54) O you who believe! If someone of you turns away from their faith, then God will bring people whom He will love, and they'll love Him back. They'll be humble with believers and strong against those who don't believe. They struggle for God’s cause without worrying about what critics say. That's God's Kindness, which He gives to whoever He wants. God is Caring and All-Knowing.
(55) Your team is God, His Messenger, and those who believe—those who pray and share with those in need while being humble.
(56) If you stick with God, His Messenger, and fellow believers, then the team of God is the winner.
(57) O you who believe! Don't seek the support of those who had the Scripture from before you or those who do not believe and make fun of your religion. Be mindful of God if you're a believer.
(58) When you call to prayer, they make fun of it, thinking it's a joke. They do this because they don't get it or understand.
(59) Say, "O People of the Book! Are you mad at us just because we believe in God and what was revealed to us and what was revealed before us? Most of you are just being rebellious!"
(60) Say, “Do you want to know what's even worse and deserve a big punishment from God? Whoever God curses and is angry with. Some of them He turned into apes, pigs, or worshippers of idols. These are in a worse place and way off track.
(61) And when they come to you, they say, "We believe," but they have come to you with disbelief and returned with it. God knows what they're hiding.
(62) You'll notice many of them rushing into doing sins, being mean, and making money dishonestly. Indeed, what they're doing is plain wrong.
(63) Why don't the religious leaders and priests stop them from talking bad and making money illegally? Indeed, what they do is just wrong!
(64) Some Jewish people once said, "God's Hand is tight." May their hands be tight and cursed for saying that. In reality, God's Hands are open, and He gives freely as He wants. The revelations given to you, O Prophet, from your Lord only make many of them more wicked and unbelieving. We've caused them to dislike and hate each other until Judgment Day. Whenever they try to start a war, God stops it, and they try to spread corruption on Earth. But God doesn't like corruptors.
(65) If the People of the Book had true faith and respect for God, their sins would be forgiven, and We would have welcomed them into the Gardens of Bliss.
(66) If they had followed the Torah and the Gospel and what their Lord revealed to them, they would have eaten from above and below their feet. Some are good people, but sadly, many are doing bad things.
(67) O Messenger! Tell people about what your Lord sent to you. If you don't, you haven't done your job. God will protect you from people. Indeed, God doesn't guide those who don't believe.
(68) Tell the People of the Book, "You're not really on the Right Path until you follow the Torah, the Gospel, and what your Lord revealed to you." But some of them might get even more stubborn and not believe. Don't stress over those who don't believe.
(69) Indeed, for those who did believe in God and the Last Day and did good deeds, whether Jewish, Sabian, or Christian, there is no fear upon them, nor should they be sad.
(70) Once, We made a deal with the children of Israel and sent them messengers. But every time a messenger told them something they didn't like, they accused some of lying and even killed others.
(71) They thought they could get away with it, so they turned a blind eye and a deaf ear. God forgave them, but they went back to their old ways. God's always watching what they do.
(72) Certainly, they do not believe those who say, "God is the Messiah, son of Mary." But the Messiah said, "O Children of Israel, worship God, my Lord and your Lord. If someone worships others alongside God, God has forbidden him from entering Paradise. His home is the Fire, and the wrongdoers won't have anyone to help them."
(73) Certainly, they do not believe those who say, "God is a third of three." But there's only One God, no one else. If they don't stop saying this, disbelievers among them will face a painful punishment.
(74) Don't they ever feel sorry for their mistakes and ask God for forgiveness? God is All-Forgiving and Most Merciful.
(75) Jesus, son of Mary, was just a messenger - there were others before him. His mother was a woman of truth, and they ate regular food. Look at how We explain things to them and notice how some people ignore it.
(76) Say, "O People of the Book! Why do you worship things that can't hurt or help you? God can hear everything and knows everything."
(77) Say, "O People of the Book! Don't go overboard with your faith, and don't follow the ideas of people who went off course in the past and led many others astray from the Right Way."
(78) The disbelievers from among the Children of Israel were cursed by David and Jesus, son of Mary. This happened because they refused to follow the rules and were rebellious.
(79) These folks didn't stop each other from doing evil things. Indeed, what they did was wrong!
(80) You see, many of them team up with those who don't believe in God. Their wrong actions are evil, and because of that, they've made God very angry. They will face punishment that lasts forever.
(81) If they had believed in God, the Prophet, and what he taught, they wouldn't have teamed up with those others. But many of them are just being stubborn and disobedient.
(82) You'll find that some people don't like those who believe in God, especially the Jews and those who believe in multiple gods. But those who are the nicest to the believers are the ones who say, "We're Christians." This is because they have priests and monks among them, and they're not proud.
(83) When they listen to what was revealed to the Messenger, you can see tears in their eyes because they feel the truth deep within. They say, "Our Lord, we believe, so please consider us among the witnesses.
(84) And why shouldn't we believe in God and the truth that has come to us? We hope that our Lord will welcome us among the good people."
(85) Because of their strong belief, God will reward them with Gardens under which rivers flow, where they'll stay forever. That's the reward for those who do good.
(86) But for those who don't believe and reject God's revelation, they will end up in the Fire.
(87) O you who believe! Don't say no to the good things God says you can have, and don't go too far. Indeed, God doesn't like it when you cross the line.
(88) Enjoy the delicious and lawful food God provides for you, and always remember to be mindful of God as you believe in Him.
(89) God doesn't punish you for oaths you didn't mean to make, but He holds you responsible if you break oaths on purpose. If you do, you need to make up for it by feeding ten hungry people with the kind of food you give your family, or by clothing them, or by freeing a slave. If you can't afford it, you should fast for three days instead. This is how you make things right when you break an oath. So, try your best to keep your word. God is telling you all this so you can be grateful.
(90) O you who believe! Drinking alcohol, gambling, worshipping idols, and making decisions by chance are all works of Satan. Stay away from them if you want to be successful.
(91) Satan wants to create fights and hatred among you through alcohol and gambling, and he wants to keep you away from thinking about God and praying. So, are you going to stop?
(92) Obey God and obey the Messenger, and be careful. If you don't, remember that Our Messenger's job is clearly delivering the message.
(93) Those who believe and do good things before something becomes forbidden won't be blamed as long as they're afraid of God, have faith, and keep doing good. After that, they believe, act right, do good deeds, and be fully mindful of God. God loves those who do good things.
(94) O you who believe! God will put you to the test with things your hands can easily access, like games and tools like spears, to see who truly fears God, even when no one is watching. Anyone who disobeys from now on will face a painful punishment.
(95) O you who believe! When you're on a pilgrimage, don't go hunting. If anyone intentionally kills an animal during this time, they have to make up for it by offering a similar animal at the Ka'ba. Two fair people will help choose it, giving food to those who need it or fasting for an equivalent time to make amends for their actions. It's all about learning from your mistakes. God forgives the past, but if someone does it again, God will punish them. And God is Very Powerful and can punish those who deserve it.
(96) Fishing and eating from the sea is allowed for you and those traveling with you. But when you're in the special state of being a pilgrim, you're not allowed to hunt on land. Remember to be aware of God because you will all be gathered before Him one day.
(97) God has made the Ka'ba, the Sacred House, a place of safety, along with the Sacred Month, special offerings, and those animals adorned with decorations. This reminds you that God knows everything in the heavens and the earth. God truly knows it all.
(98) Understand that God can be strict when it comes to punishment, but at the same time, God is also Forgiving and Merciful.
(99) The Messenger's main job is to deliver the message, and God is Well Aware of what you make public and what you hide.
(100) Say, "Bad and good aren't the same, even if you're impressed by how much bad stuff is out there. So, be mindful of God, you who have good minds, and you'll find success."
(101) O you who believe! Don't ask about things that might trouble you when you find their answers. You'll get clear answers if you ask while the Quran is being revealed. God forgives what happened before, and He's Forgiving and Patient.
(102) Some people before you asked similar questions, but after getting answers and commands, they turned away from faith.
(103) God didn't appoint animals dedicated to idols like Bahira, Sa'iba, Wasila, and Ham. The Pagans made up stories about God, but many didn't get it.
(104) When it's said to them, "Follow what God revealed and what the Messenger teaches," they say, "We're good following what our ancestors did," even though their ancestors didn't know anything or had any guidance.
(105) O you who believe! You're in charge of your actions. If you stay on the Right Path, no one who makes mistakes can affect you. In the end, you'll return to God, and He will inform you about everything you've done.
(106) O you who believe! When you feel like you might die soon, you can grab two trustworthy persons to witness your last wishes. If you're far from home and death is near, find two people from wherever you are. Make sure to talk to them after you pray. And if you're unsure, make them swear by God and say: "We won't lie about our testimony at any price, even if it involves a family member. We won't keep God's truth a secret, or else we'd be doing something wrong."
(107) But if it turns out that those two persons lied in their testimony, then get another pair of relatives to take their place and have them swear by God and say, "By God! Our words are more truthful than theirs. We haven't done anything wrong. If we had, we would be doing something unfair."
(108) In this way, people will more likely tell the truth when they're witnesses. Otherwise, they might worry that their promises could be proven wrong by the family of the person involved. Remember God and follow His guidance because God doesn't guide those who are rebellious.
(109) And on the Day when God gathers all the messengers, He'll ask them what responses they got. They'll reply, "We don't know; only You know things we can't see."
(110) When God will say, "O Jesus, son of Mary! Remember My favors upon you and your mom when I strengthened you with the Holy Spirit. And when you could speak to people when you were just a baby in the cradle and as you grew up. And how I also taught you the Book and Wisdom, the Torah, and the Gospel. And when you made a bird shape out of clay, and with my permission, you made it come to life just by blowing on it! You also healed blind and leprous people and even brought the dead back to life, all with my permission. And remember when I protected you from the Children of Israel when you showed them these amazing miracles. The non-believers among them said, ‘This is nothing but pure magic.’"
(111) Remember when I inspired the disciples, telling them, "Believe in Me and My Messenger." They said, "We believe! So be our witness that we are Muslims and have submitted to God."
(112) Then the disciples asked, "O Jesus, son of Mary! can your Lord bring us a heavenly feast?" He replied, "Fear God if you're true believers."
(113) They said, "We want to eat from it to reassure our hearts, and to know that you're indeed telling the truth, and be witnesses to it."
(114) Jesus, son of Mary, said, "O God, our Lord, send us a heavenly feast as a celebration for all of us, a sign from You, and provide for us. You're indeed the Best Provider."
(115) God said, "I am sending it down to you, but if anyone disbelieves after that, they'll face a punishment like no one has ever faced before."
(116) God will ask Jesus, "Did you ever tell people to worship you and your mother as two gods instead of Me?" Jesus will say, "Glory be to You! I had no right to say that. You know what's in my heart, but I can't know what's in Yours. You're indeed the Knower of the unseen.
(117) I only told them what You commanded me: worship God, my Lord, and your Lord. I watched over them when I was with them, but once You took me, You watched over them. You're the Witness to all things.
(118) If You punish them, they're Your servants; but if You forgive them, You're the All-Mighty, the All-Wise."
(119) God will say, "This is the Day when the honest will be rewarded for their honesty. They'll have beautiful Gardens with rivers flowing underneath. God will be happy with them, and they'll be happy with God. That's the greatest achievement."
(120) God owns everything in the heavens and the earth and everything in them, and He is Capable of everything.
